Stephen Batzell

Steve Batzell, CFA, is a Senior Financial Advisor at Montis Financial. Steve’s responsibilities include investment management, retirement planning, and providing individualized financial advice to client families. Steve emphasizes getting to understand each client’s and family’s immediate and long-term financial goals as well as their past experiences with money matters. Steve has 40 years of professional investment and business experience. Prior to joining Montis in July 2025, Steve was founder and Chief Investment Officer of Abacus Financial Advisors, a wealth management firm based in Framingham, MA. After business school, the early years of Steve’s career in finance were spent at State Street Bank and Baring Securities.

Steve’s approach to working with clients is deeply informed by his earlier career experiences as an educator, football and lacrosse coach, and school administrator, which taught him the important lessons of teamwork, listening well and demonstrating empathy as a path to building trust. Steve, like many of his clients, has also been an entrepreneur, having been a founding partner of a well-known restaurant in Harvard Square and a beverage company based in Maine.

Steve holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management, with a concentration in economics. He also holds a Masters degree from the Harvard School of Education and a BA from Haverford College.

Steve enjoys gardening, reading of all types, racquet sports, painting, family reunions and playing with his grandchildren. He is an avid fan of Boston sports.
